Driving through the rolling hills of New England, you’re likely to see your fair share of local farm stands. Ranging from small tents with a few staples to large farms fully stocked with all you need, there’s something special about these local gems that always makes me want to pull over and take a peek.
FARM FRESH PRODUCE
When you stop at a farm stand, you know you’re looking at the freshest goods, plucked maybe even just that morning from a nearby farm. Typically, there’s a variety of fruits and veggies, but larger stands may also have meats, seasonings, dairy, and even seafood.
ANIMALS
Occasionally you luck out and find a stand with animals. I drive by SpringDell Farm in Littleton, Massachusetts every week and finally had a moment to stop in this past weekend. Not only did they have amazing products for sale, but tucked up the hill was a large area filled with animals. Chickens were running free, a donkey walked right up to us for attention, and goats climbed over each other to say hi. They also had cows, horses, sheep, and dogs. It was so fun to explore and the kids absolutely loved it.
UNIQUE, ONE-OF-A-KIND PRODUCTS
There are always the most interesting and unique items for sale. Fun finds like popcorn that pops right on the cobb, locally made Sriracha sauce, and homemade Diet Root Beer. Sometimes I walk around, looking at the displays and think “well, I didn’t know I needed organic ice cream seasonings but now that I see it, I have to have it!”
FRESH FLOWERS
Whether it’s pick-your-own or pre-made bouquets, they are always fresh, vibrant and beautiful.
SUPPORT LOCAL FARMERS
The best part about shopping at farm stands is knowing that no matter how much or how little you buy, you know you’re helping to support the hardworking farmers in your local community.
